Russian Sauna (Banya): Technical Details

From a technical point of view, Russian sauna applications include many details such as design and functioning, the use of natural materials, heating methods and ventilation systems. The combination of traditional methods and modern technologies makes the bath both an authentic experience and an engineering marvel.

  1. Heating System: Wood stoves are used in traditional bathrooms. In modern bathrooms, electric or gas heaters will be preferred.
  2. Building Material: Natural Wood: Usually high-temperature resistant wood species such as spruce, cedar or alder are used.
  3. Indoor Layout: Orama Benches: There are usually three-stage bank system to experience different temperature levels. Steam Area: Steam density is formed by the interaction of hot stones and water. Cold Alan: Iced water pools or cold shower areas are used for cooling after sauna.
  4. Size and Design: While traditional bathrooms are usually designed for 4-6 people, modern versions can be more compact for home use.

Planning and Design:

A suitable area for the sauna is identified. (usually a section in the garden or inside the house). The capacity of the structure is planned with the materials to be used and the heating system.

Soil and Foundation Preparation

The ground is ensured to be resistant to water and moisture. A concrete foundation is laid or a wooden platform is prepared.

Wall and Roof Construction:

Wood paneling resistant to high temperature and humidity conditions should be installed. Insulating material should be placed on the inside of the walls.

Installation of the Heating System:

A traditional wood stove or modern electric heater is installed. A heat-retaining chimney system should be implemented.

Interior Arrangement:

The placement of the benches will create an ergonomic design. A suitable area should be created on the stove for hot stones.

Final Checks and Preparation for Use:

Insulation, heat and vapor tightness of the structure should be tested. It must be made ready for use.
